Harpers International Wheelchair Athletics Competition
The 19th and 20th June 2010 saw the return of elite wheelchair athletics to the home of disability sport - Stoke Mandeville Stadium - with the Harpers International Wheelchair Athletics Competition 2010.The event promised much, with athletes being attracted from around the world to what is one of the biggest disability athletics events on the European calendar.
Over the two days of competition, there were some fantastic performances with World Records from wheelchair racer Hannah Cockcroft and a British Record from shot putter Danny Nobbs, whilst Germany’s Mark Schuh also broke the German national record on the track.
Mike Wood, Chairman of the British Wheelchair Athletics Association, said “It is great to see elite wheelchair athletics back at Stoke Mandeville Stadium – the home of wheelchair sport - in the lead up to London 2012. As well as showcasing the very best wheelchair athletics talent from around the globe, we wanted to continue to inspire youngsters and those recently injured back into sport. With an array of athletes from the Aviva GB & NI Team, including the likes of Paralympic medallists Dave Weir, Stephen Miller and Mickey Bushell, and around the world, the event proved to be a great display of wheelchair athletics”.
