‘No Strings’ Badminton is a huge success at Stoke Mandeville Stadium
The No Strings Badminton Monday team won their first match 5 games to 4. Sue Rutson, Coordinator for the No Strings Monday session said:
“it was a fantastic battle of badminton with body’s flying all over the court. There were yells and of course war cries and the odd collision. Some rallies were extended periods of full exertion and the players fought hard to take and keep control. However hard the games were, or how challenging the rallies, everyone played within the spirit of the game with fairness and outstanding goodwill.”
Fun, fitness and friends describe some of the benefits from joining sessions, and each session continues to go that extra mile for every player offering the opportunity to experience some social and competitive play.
No strings Badminton has been such a huge success at Stoke Mandeville Stadium and is now welcoming the launch of exciting new ladies only session. This will launch on the 10th January and will be a 10-week course on Tuesday evenings between 8-9pm, a perfect time to get fit after all those festivities.
Ross Timms, the No Strings Coordinator for the Sunday evening ‘Family No-Strings’ session at Stoke Mandeville Stadium said:
“This new course comes hot on the heels of the men’s doubles competition. I believe the casual nature of the sessions, not only give the players the chance to get fit and play on a regular basis. It allows the opportunity to experience some organised competitive play.”
There are currently two sessions offered at the Centre: Sunday 6-8pm for all of the family, and Monday for adults 1-4pm. Both of which create a sense of friendly competition between the two sessions, and gives two playing opportunities.
Nina Bridge the Regional Officer for Badminton England said:
“This is the first No Strings Badminton friendly match in the area and we’ve set a president for others to follow. The success of the Badminton is down to the fantastic staff and coordinators at the Stadium who help players to enjoy the sessions every week”.
